“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace”
-Romans 8:5-6
Now I know what this says, it’s very simple. It says, if we’re carnally minded, we’ll experience death, and if we’re spiritually minded, we’ll experience life and peace. We all can agree on that. But let’s take this scripture on a more deeper, spiritual level. Jesus would often speak parables and then He would say, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear”.
So let’s read verse 5,
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT.”
Notice the bigger letters. Here, if we are mindful of the things of the Spirit, that means we are focused on what Holy Spirit is saying and what He is doing. And what is the job of Holy Spirit?
Jesus said,
“He(Holy Spirit) will GLORIFY ME, for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you” -John 16:14
The job of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus, to lift up Jesus, to reveal Jesus, to focus on Jesus. The Holy Spirit will only speak what Jesus is speaking (John 16:12-15). So in other words, to focus on Holy Spirit means to be focused on Jesus.
Since it’s Holy Spirit’s job to reveal who Jesus is, then we can probably see Jesus in the next scripture. Can you see Him? Let’s read verse 6:
“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is LIFE and PEACE”
Who is life? Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the LIFE! And who is peace? There is only one Prince of PEACE, and that is JESUS!
So I find that the true way to be spiritually minded is to be conscious of Jesus at all times, and in everything.
My friends, if you can keep your focus on Jesus and His love for you, the result will be you experiencing life and peace daily. It’s all about Jesus!
