In the month of August 2016, we had some High School students who volunteered at Anugrah Learning Center (ALC) Tol Timur, Bekasi. On Saturday, 13 August 2016, Nicole and Claudia (from Sekolah Pelita Harapan), and Angeline (from Heritage School) teamed up to teach Math at ALC Tol Timur. About 35 Adikku Sayang students came to join the class. It was really exciting, because they threw pop-up quiz to the crowd, and those who finished up their works early were rewarded.
On Saturday, 27 August 2016, once again Nicole (from Sekolah Pelita Harapan) and Angeline (from Heritage School) teamed up to teach English through painting at ALC Tol Timur. Almost 30 Adikku Sayang students came to join this class. They were divided into groups. Each group consisted of five to six students, and they were to cooperate to produce a painting on canvas. They really had a great time, as most of them probably had never painted on canvas before. Most of them painted scenery (mountain, lake, and beach), and only one group did figure painting.
It’s really amazing to see how we can create togetherness amongst them. These International High School students had all the reasons to hang out in the mall with their friends, watch movies, or go to parties, like any other teenagers. Instead they chose to spend their Saturday afternoon to share and care with other children who are less fortunate than they. Life is more beautiful when we share; that’s a life lesson that we hope will leave deep impression in them. Thank you for sharing your time and resources!
