Reading Verse: Joshua 7:1-26

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.

1 Peter 3:3

Everyone tries to have an attractive physical appearance so they use many ways to have a beautiful or handsome face. It is natural to desire a good-looking appearance in other people’s sight. However, the most important thing is to have inner beauty. Men look at appearance but God looks at the heart. It is written in the Word of God that Samuel appointed king of Israel based on what eyes could see, while God looks deep into the heart. And David was pleasing to God so he was appointed as the King of Israel. God is more into our character than our outlook. Although we have nice appearance, but if our heart is full with evil or envy, then it will not be pleasing to God.

True beauty is when we can watch our words, because even a tongue is small but it is very powerful. Therefore, we need to watch our tongue from speaking negative words. Use our words to praise God and strengthen others in order to bring peace and enhance our true beauty. In addition, we need to guard our heart. It is written in Proverbs 4:23 that we have to guard our heart above everything else by staying away from anything unpleasing to God. A pure heart is one key to true beauty. We can have inner beauty from the good deeds that we do for others, for example helping each other, caring for others, and generosity. When we show good deeds, our inner will shine out of us. Besides, our closeness to God daily can make us have our true beauty because we will have God’s character. Being close to God makes us peaceful even in the midst of troubles, so that we will have good appearance.

Therefore, persevere more in our worship and faithfulness in God so that we can become beautiful in His eyes. Keep in mind that physical beauty is temporary, but spiritual beauty is ever lasting in our whole life. Let us start paying attention to our inner beauty instead of focusing on our physical beauty. Amen.
