Reasons to Give Thanks

Reading Verse: Genesis 45:1-28

“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

            Normally, most of us can only give thanks when we are in good and pleasant circumstances. This is a norm, but God longs for us to be able to give thanks in all things, including when we are facing tough circumstances. Thanksgiving is an expression of our gratitude to God because He has lavished His grace upon us. Why do we need to give thanks? It’s because God always gives the best for us. For example, God has given us the best health, job, and family. None of God’s plan is bad for us. Even when facing problems, we should give thanks to God, because the end results will always be the best.

Next, we must always give thanks because Jesus has sacrificed Himself on the cross so we can get the forgiveness of our sins and be saved. By His blood, we have been cleansed, and given eternal life. Outside of Jesus, there is no guarantee of our salvation. Only in Jesus, we receive this amazing grace. That’s why we must always give thanks for the redemption that the Lord has given to us through His death on the cross. The word of God says, “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter 1:18-19).

Give thanks to God also because He always fulfills our every need. He does not leave us for one single second. Whether in abundance or in lack, we should remain thankful to God and should not be anxious. Give thanks to God because He always lavished us with His grace, and His loving kindness is always new for us. God is even able to give to us more than what we can think of or imagine. His grace is overflowing, so we must give thanks. We must give thanks because He does not plan any accident in our lives. His plan is always the best for us.

            Everyday, let us start our day by giving thanks to God, and may God’s peace be with us always.
