Sounds

Hmmmm… Sound. There are sounds everywhere. Like now, as I’m facing the notebook in this room, there are many different kinds of sound. Some sounds are heard at the same time, others heard simultaneously. The sound of the chair cracking and the sound of the keyboard of my notebook as my fingers type on it. I can hear the sound of the refrigerator and the air conditioner, and the vague sound of the television in the living room, also the sound of the cars that pass by on the street next to my house.  Once in a while, I also hear the squeaking sound of some rats outside. It seems as though they are having a family gathering. LOL!

Yes, I can hear those sounds. They sound near and are very familiar to my ears. I know these sounds so well that I know what they are when they make the sound, though I am not directly looking at them all at once. I was very sure of my hearing though I was not looking around. These sounds aren’t lying, but how is it that I can explain all these sounds correctly? That’s because I have been in touch with these sounds before. I know how the cars sound, the clock and so on, because I have known and heard these sounds. If I have not heard the sound before, I would definitely be questioning myself, what sound is that? I could only guess, and I might be wrong.

Friends, the same goes for our spiritual hearing. We will get to know His voice when He speaks to us only if we have been communicating with Him through an intimate relationship. This is what enables us to listen to His voice and understand the purpose behind the plans that He has for our lives. The closer we get to Him, the more sensitive we become and the better we will be in listening to His voice.

His voice will sound closer and more familiar if we always abide closely to Him and dwell in His presence. Easy? No. Sometimes there are so many sounds and voices around us that distract our focus and attention from listening to His voice. This distraction makes us listen to other voices and neglect His voice. It is so easy to focus on our own voice, the voices of other people and even the voices we should not be listening to, instead of His voice.

When we are happy, are we going to be too caught up in the voices that praise us, and drift further away from His voice? In weaknesses, when trials come and go attacking our lives, when hurt and pain come in the pages of our days, are we going to choose to listen to the voices that weaken us even more? The choice and decision is ours. Make your choice, and decide whether or not you want to listen to His voice.
