Reading Verse: Genesis 17:1-26
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us
1 John 5:14
Praying might seem simple for most of us. We do it every day. Each time we pray, we always hope for the respond from God. But the most important thing when we pray is that we should pray according to His will, and not according to our own will. As in one part of Our Father prayer: Your will be done on earth as in heaven, meaning that let His own will be done upon us.
We tend to pray according to our own wants. It is not easy to pray and surrender everything to God, because each of us has our own desires. People’s will is not the same as God’s will, but we have to learn to obey God’s will. Only is God’s will the best for us. God doesn’t always give what we think is the best for us, because He wants to give us better even the best. When we obey His will, God will enable us to walk according to His will.
When Jesus was in Gethsemane, He prayed that only His Father’s will be done. Even though it was hard, but Jesus surrendered totally to His Father, and Jesus was able to go through it all.
Praying according to His will also means that we need to guard our heart, especially when we pray. Never pray if we still have envy or other sins. It is written in Isaiah 59:2 that the obstacle between God and us is our sins. So we need to have pure hearts. Never allow ourselves to force God to follow our desires, but let He takes control of us.
When we can pray according to His will means that we please His heart and live according to His plan so that His plan may be fulfilled upon us.
In order to know God’s will, we have to have a close relationship with God so that we are able to know His will in order for Him to guide us praying and walking. In addition, we have to be able to adjust our wants with the Word of God. The Word of God is the truth, so everything that we do has to be done according to the Word.
Believe that when our prayers are aligned with His will, then God will reveal our hopes on time. Let each of us learn to make God’s will a priority above our own wants. Mari setiap kita dapat belajar untuk mengutamakan kehendak Tuhan di atas segala keinginan kita.
We always need to learn to be humble before God, so we are able to pray according to His will only. Amen.
