Throwing Away Hatred

Reading Verse: Genesis 4: 1 – 26

“Now Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Genesis 4: 8 (NKJV)

In the verses for the reading above, it was told that both Cain and Abel offered up burnt sacrifices to God. However at that time, Cain saw that God was more pleased with Abel’s offerings. At that moment, Cain was starting to be controlled by jealousy. He even hated his brother. From that moment on, Cain kept this hatred till he eventually killed his brother. Each of us has experienced jealousy before. However, do not let that feeling bring us to do evil things. God wants us to forgive and give thanks for the things that we have and not feel jealous.

Each of us should refrain from hatred, for hatred makes us find faults with other people. As the people of God, we are created to love one another. When conflicts arise, they should be solved in a proper manner so that no hatred occurs. Psalms 133: 1 – 3 says that it is good for brethren to live together in unity.

We should throw hatred far away from our lives for it can hinder blessings to come our way. When we hold certain hatred towards someone, it blocks our prayers. Matthew 5: 23 – 24 says that when we pray, and if we have something against someone, we should first clear our problems before praying. Thus, before praying, we should really check on the conditions of our hearts. The word of God says that sin is the block that blocks us from God. Hatred is one kind of sin before God. Therefore, if we want to enjoy God’s blessings and receive God’s best, we really need to move ourselves as far away from hatred as possible. We have to learn to forgive one another.

Hatred steals away the peace and joy of our hearts, and makes it difficult for us to be joyful. Hating does no harm to the one we hate, but it does harm us. We really need to let go of the hatred in our hearts so that we may see God’s goodness and blessings. There is no goodness for us in keeping hatred. Everything would be in vain. Life would be much more beautiful if we throw away our hatred and God will bless us when we live together in unity.

Let us always live in the love of God no matter where we are. Amen.
