Everybody has someone that he\/she admires, for example, a certain artist or icon. Basically, admiring or idolizing someone is because of his\/her physical appearance or skill. The level of admiration starts from average to fanatic. Therefore whatever that the idol wears, or how he\/she speaks, even to his\/her style, will be copied in a flash.
\nThis is what happened to the fans of the Korean boy band, named Super Junior, also called SuJu who came to Indonesia to conduct a concert not long ago. They were willing to be in the queue for hours, and because they really admire their idol, they even made the sacrifice to stay overnight on the queue for a ticket. These Elf (the nickname of SuJu\u2019s fans) were so disappointed and sad when the tickets were sold out.
\nA more sensational example would be Angelina Barnes (Lady Gaga\u2019s fan) who killed her cat. She did this because she wanted to follow her idol\u2019s footstep (Lady Gaga once came out in her concert, wearing a coat splattered with the blood of an animal). That\u2019s why she killed her pet in order to get the blood, and then went to watch the performance of her idol.<\/p>\n
Admiring an idol is not wrong, especially if we follow his\/her positive conducts. But the question is: should we admire another human being so much so that we became ambitious? Sometimes in order to be able to meet our idol, we have to forsake our own interest or responsibility.<\/p>\n
In the Bible, it is written, \u201cYou shall not make for yourself a carved image\u2014any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth\u201d (Exodus 20:4). This verse is talking about idol worship, not only in the form of a statue. Anything that we admire too much (including another human being) will be considered worshiping idols.<\/p>\n
Indeed, nobody prohibits us from liking or admiring a superstar or an artist. But, is our admiration still within a normal boundary? If we have crossed the normal boundary, then we need to rethink about it: how great is this person that we have to admire him\/her so much? Anyway, above all else, we should admire the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n
