Reading verse: Genesis 29: 1 – 35

“Looking gracefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled..”

Hebrews 12: 15

In this life, we do not experience good things all the time. There are times we will be faced with disappointment and heartache. However, we should never dwell in disappointment. We have to let go of such disappointment so that it does not grow into bitterness. We need to guard our hearts and maintain its purity, for it is where the source of life is.

Proverbs 4: 23 says that we should keep our hearts with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Keeping our hearts is very important. Keeping disappointments does us no good. Instead, we should give more space in our hearts for joy. We should keep ourselves focused on the plans of God for it is much more beautiful than anything that happens. It is also said that a joyful heart is a medicine, joy makes our lives better.

To feel more of God’s love in our hearts, we must be able to let go of disappointments and heartaches. When we are disappointed, it will be difficult for us to feel God’s love because we focus on our problems. Let go of everything that is not pleasing to God, and let Him fill our hearts. When the love of God fills our heart, we become calmer in facing things.

Dwelling in disappointment can lead to sin. We remember that when Cain was disappointed with Abel, he was so jealous of Abel and hated him so much, and in the end he killed his own brother. Hence, it is very dangerous to keep hatred and disappointment against another, for it may lead to sin.

In disappointment, we should never despair. Instead, we should come to God. Allow God to treat all the wounds in our hearts and we shall be healed. Do not drift far away from God for He is the only one who is able to heal our heartaches and disappointments and turn our mourning into dancing.

When we are disappointed, look only to God. He is the sole source of our lives who will never ever let us down. If we look only to Him, we will be strengthened. Focus on God and not problems.

There may be many reasons for us to be disappointed. Nevertheless, don’t be. With God, we are more than conquerors. From today onwards, let us fill our lives with the love of God. Let each and every one of us keep our hearts so that the love of God may be revealed.

Keep rejoicing in the Lord.
